I will be honest, I liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple clicks and a client can set an order using a freelancer based on a specific set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a price. A significant one.
That is only the few freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and outright blackmail sellers any way they like.
In this informative article, I wish to talk about a new bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and I chose to give up on the stage altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
(I have been advising her building up a reputable accounts, and the way to go above and beyond every previous order. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In cases like this, she'd just gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which seemed to be similar to any other... so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in good time, and my buddy had included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source home file (that is usually a part of the pricier bundle ).
The customer"loved" among those concepts and so we moved to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the gig description.
The client came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the emblem, something that is clearly not offered as a member of her post.
In my advice, my buddy chose to provide the further work, although not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the client responded with much more demands and some modifications to the social media files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the client went from only overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a response and reach to Fiverr support for assistance, the customer did finally go on and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to show her he/she wasn't Fiverr Review - Legit Freelance Marketplace or Scam? - Aaron And ... kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service query, the customer paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Obviously, the payment was accompanied by still another threat.
Now, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this person down so I could punch them from the face.
But, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service could step in and save my girlfriend out of this PITA client.
After the answer came back from Fiverr service, they told that they could Fiverr Review- Why Should You Sign Up? Check Out My Review and ... not force the purchaser to take the purchase.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (though the buyer accepted it.)
They also proposed drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the work has been completed in accordance to the gig requirements.
Honestly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email the client was hoping to extort her to get free work outside the agreed terms, by leaving a negative review if she didn't comply.
Naturally, it wasn't about the job, it had been all about seeking protection in an abusive customer who had been intentionally pushing their luck.
Their reply did not provide either of us some confidence that Fiverr really understood , and even at this stage we felt like they did not wish to get involved.
At precisely the identical time, she responded to the buyers newest threat, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the comments has been changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments that was obviously and intentionally left to bully her to supplying function outside the agreed terms)
A fair request by anyones standards, correct?
Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all the rules.
Because she'd asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no more entitled to any help from Fiverr assistance.
It is possible to imagine how we felt studying this.
Everything that the buyer had said and done before her final message has been now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr basically chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she had worked so hard to accumulate.
And think, there are tons of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as all this was happening, I did some research to see whether any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Quite quickly, I found a range of almost equal cases about the Fiverr forum outdated years ago. (that's correct, decades.)
This is clearly something which's been going on for quite a while and it all stems from giving buyers too much power over vendors.
When there's one thing I have learned about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how long that you put into a job, or how hard you worked on itor perhaps how well you managed communication during a dispute, when it actually boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it is a clear cut case in your favor, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. It takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" according to their terms of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the signs, it is clear to me Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet remains prepared to sit back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reevaluate your present support processes for freelancers.
It is not right that someone can place all that time and effort in to building up an account and also over-delivering at every conceivable opportunity, only to be taken down by the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not need to abandon Fiverr. I don't need to be telling people to avoid your platform.
But after everything that has happened, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from using this kind of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do anything I can to stop others from falling victim to your one-sided support team.
The second you really do something about this and give freelancers a means to fight back, I'll be happy to update the article.
